Guernsey DriveAbility provides a Bailiwick of Guernsey based, specialist assessment and tuition service for people requiring advice, assessment or rehabilitative retraining in relation to medical fitness to drive. The approach is positive and we assist people with medical conditions and disabilities to learn to drive, continue to drive or return to driving after illness. This increases independence, economic and social activity and wellbeing. Anyone may refer themselves for advice, but healthcare professionals and the licensing authority also refer and accept our reports. Human Resources departments wishing to support employees returning to driving work after illness may commission an assessment and written report.For those who need them, we offer trial of controls adaptations to ensure drivers choose the best for their needs and learn how to use them before having their car adapted. We also offer check-ups and a formal report for more 'senior' drivers, and these are useful for licence renewal applications. We only advise driving cessation when absolutely necessary and aim to support the driver in coming to his / her own decision on this.
