Description Aims and Objectives
Grow (Guernsey’s Rural Occupational Workshop) is owned by a company that is registered as a charity, the shares in which are in the majority owned by the society that is affiliated to the Guernsey MENCAP LBG . It provides a sheltered environmental workshop where learning disabled, physical disabilities and mental health people can undergo horticultural and related training with a view to being able to take their place in the community.
Organisation and Management
There is a Board of Directors, drawn from various interests on the Island, which meets monthly to formulate policy, review resources and monitor progress.
The company receives partial sponsorship for the attendees/sheltered workers by agreement with the Health and Social Care Department of the States of Guernsey that goes towards operating expenses of the company. All other funding has to be raised from the sale of plants and produce, its garden maintenance service, and donations from the public.
- There is a sponsorship scheme in operation whereby the cost of growing or marketing a crop, or part of it, over a given period, is financed by supportive donors. - Repairs and renewals: Donations are always required to maintain the workplace in the most up-to-date state of excellence. These donations enable Grow Limited to keep abreast of modern techniques needed to maintain high standards in training methods and crop production.
