Guille-Alles Library

Our aims and objectives

At the heart of island life since 1882.

For almost 150 years, the Guille-Allès Library has been a hub for culture, learning, and community in Guernsey. Founded by lifelong friends Thomas Guille and Frederick Allès, their vision was to create a Library for everyone – and today our goal remains the same.

By providing free access to books, ideas, and trustworthy information, the Library enriches lives, champions reading, and supports wellbeing across the community, with equal access for all. In addition to the core collection, the Library also provides:

+ Community Libraries and Outreach

+ School Services

+ Care Home Services

+ Public access computers and WiFi

For our full range of services visit the website or get in touch.

Organisation and management

The Library is a registered charity. In addition to our annual grant from the States of Guernsey, we welcome support from the community through donation and sponsorship.

The Guille-Allès Library Council determines Library policy, and this is implemented by the Board of Management.
