Join Wigwam, Mencap, Carers Guernsey, Paws for Support in our new offices Email hub@grow.gg for more info. https://grow.gg/grow-community-hub/ The charity has announced the opening of its Community Hub which will provide office space, shared training areas and the use of modern facilities for co-locating charities at discounted rates. A variety of accommodation is available including the ability to lease a ‘hot desk’ in a fully serviced office shared with other operators, similar to the well-established system at Digital Greenhouse. Rooms ranging in size to accommodate between three and eight desks are also offered. GROW Hub members will also be able to hire a range of meeting rooms, the board room, the canteen and life-skills kitchen at very competitive rates. All the areas are accessible with a lift to the first-floor accommodation and co-locators will have ‘out of hours’ access. Whilst parking is limited onsite, GROW is encouraging ‘active travel’ with covered bicycle spaces and a new bus layby at the Coutanchez. GROW General Manager, Karen Blanchford said, ‘For the first-time disability charities will have the opportunity to cross collaborate and share ideas and knowledge, becoming part of a dynamic community. Sharing joint training and workshops will help forge stronger partnerships while, at the same time, developing more effective use of skills and experiences within the sector.’ Wigwam Support Group LBG, which provides friendship and advice for families of children and young people with special needs, has already moved in. Susie Gallienne, Family Support Coordinator at Wigwam says: ‘We are delighted to be part of a community of charities that support people with disabilities, all of us operating from the same building. For our children, we will have access to spaces for arts and crafts and other hobbies and, of course, gardening and growing. The GROW site is in the middle of the island and offers plenty of space which is perfect for people with sensory issues. We are looking forward to developing Wigwam further in our new home.’ Charities associated with the disability sector interested in renting space and becoming part of the GROW Community Hub should contact Karen Blanchford, General Manager email karen@grow.gg Wigwam contacts: susie.gallienne@wigwam.org.gg 07839121678

Grow 40th Bake Off Following the success of our first Grow Bake Off last year, we are asking local bakers to hone their culinary skills and support a good cause at the same time. Last summer 12 businesses, four Charities and Deputy Peter Roffey, representing the deputies, were invited to take part in the Grow Bake Off which was judged at the North Show. Now, to celebrate their 40th year Grow is encouraging 40 local organisations and individuals to take part in this year’s challenge. Contestants will be asked to create a bake, which includes at least one culinary vegetable locally grown, and bring it to the Grow marquee at the West Show 14th August for the grand judging Karen Blanchford, Grow’s CEO said, ‘Last year’s event attracted some really exciting, unusual and very tasty entries, ranging from a Parsnip and Maple Syrup Cake to Mediterranean Vegetable & Feta Cheese Pies. We are asking organisations to choose their Ace Baker through in-house competitions again this year. We would be delighted to come along to the judging with a member of our Crew to join in or just meet the bakers. Getting out into the community with members of our team plays a major role in helping to build confidence among the Crew and introduce them to different environments and experiences.’ This year’s competition is sponsored by M&S Guernsey. Their Head, Greg Yeoman said, ‘We are keen to sponsor Grow’s Bake Off again this year, It’s a light-hearted way of supporting the charity and generating some friendly rivalry between the entrants as they showcase their culinary skills and creativity. We encourage all corporate teams, charities and deputies to roll up their sleeves, put on their aprons, and join us for this exciting event.’ Last year’s winner was Nikki Lloyd, representing Leaders and Black Vanilla, with her Root Vegetable Rainbow Cake. Ms Lloyd said, ‘It was a bit stressful, putting the finishing touches to the cake the night before, but I’m so pleased I took part and was really impressed with all the other entries. Internal Bake Offs among colleagues at work to choose their Ace Baker is a great way of having a bit of fun, getting together and supporting Grow at the same time.’ As well as an overall winner this year, there will be prizes for quirky entries such as most vegetables included, unusual shape and celebrating 40. Businesses with 50 or more employees will be asked to make a donation of £250 and smaller enterprises, a donation of £100. Deputies will be asked for a donation of their choice and there will be no charge for other charities taking part. A link to the entry form is below.
