30 Walks in 30 days

Volunteer Induction Evening
Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA)

We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles. You need to be at least 13 years old to help at the Shelter. If you are younger then you could still help. If you talk to your parents or guardians they may help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter. To get started in Volunteering at the GSPCA we hold Induction Evenings and no matter your age there is always a way you can help. If you are looking to complete your work experience, Duke of Edinburgh or similar placement it is a requirement to attend one of the sessions to arrange a start date and complete the induction. The Volunteer Induction Evenings planned for 2017 will take place on the following days and times in the Event and Training Room at the GSPCA, but please do call 257261 closer to the date to confirm it is taking place. When you arrive to attend please follow the paw prints at the front of reception which will take you to the upper floor where the sessions are held. Island FM & Trim Dog invite you & your furry friends to the Annual Charity Dog Walk

Island FM and Trim Dog would like to invite you and your furry friends to the Annual Charity Dog Walk! Join us on Sunday 9th April at the Liberation Monument for a 9.30am start. We’ll enjoy a short stroll together to Bulwer Avenue and back! A registration fee of £5 will be collected to support Animal Aid and the GSPCA They’ll be goodie bags and certificates for each doggie as well as a raffle for the walkers (tickets on sale from Trim Dog £1 per strip), who could win up to £100 of Trim Dog vouchers! During the school breaks we run a series of guided tours at the GSPCA and we have now planned for 2017 with some special tours for the children. You can also book a tour for a special event or birthday. This is your opportunity to visit behind the scenes at our Animal Shelter in St Andrews and see the work being carried out for the new build. We are arranging the guided tours on a series of dates at 2pm with the next being held during the Easter break We ask for a minimum donation of £6 per person and £4 per child, or £17 for a family of four or £16 with an Islands Mum card. In 2017 we have some themed tours which are £18 per child or £16 with an Islands Mums card. The tours take around 80 minutes and you get to see in many of the departments, interact with some of the friendly residents and a variety of species. The special tours are a little longer. Tours are a maximum of 20 people per tour, so please book early. Some of the animals you will have the chance to see will be cats, rabbits, birds, hedgehogs, dogs looking for homes and some of the other wildlife. Regency Bedding's EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA with Island FM and Outdoor Guernsey
Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA)

Island FM have teamed up with Regency Bedding and have created an exciting event and fundraiser to introduce Primary School Children to a fun afternoon of Taster Sessions of Alternative Sports and Activities with Outdoor Guernsey at Rue Maingy Activity Centre. The Sporting activities will include; Archery, the Indoor Climbing Wall and High Ropes. Families will be invited to join us from 11a.m. on Sunday 16th April at Rue Maingy. We expect 100’s of children to attend and for the Grande Finale of a fun afternoon of child development and sport, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt with prizes for all the children. There will be a small entry fee per child; and all proceeds will go to the GSPCA. In addition there will be a raffle. ALL proceeds will go to charity. Our very own Island FM mascot, Daniel the Donkey will also be present to meet the children. Tickets will be on sale for £5 per child, Adults go free (There must be 1 adult to accompany every 3 children). Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA)

During the school breaks we run a series of guided tours at the GSPCA and we have now planned for 2017 with some special tours for the children. You can also book a tour for a special event or birthday. This is your opportunity to visit behind the scenes at our Animal Shelter in St Andrews and see the work being carried out for the new build. We are arranging the guided tours on a series of dates at 2pm with the next being held during the Easter break We ask for a minimum donation of £6 per person and £4 per child, or £17 for a family of four or £16 with an Islands Mum card. In 2017 we have some themed tours which are £18 per child or £16 with an Islands Mums card. The tours take around 80 minutes and you get to see in many of the departments, interact with some of the friendly residents and a variety of species. The special tours are a little longer. Tours are a maximum of 20 people per tour, so please book early. Some of the animals you will have the chance to see will be cats, rabbits, birds, hedgehogs, dogs looking for homes and some of the other wildlife. Guernsey Sands Community Meet
SANDS Guernsey

Guernsey Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) has a local support group who can offer emotional support and practical help if your baby has died during late pregnancy, at birth or shortly afterwards. Our friendly and relaxed monthly community meets are an opportunity for bereaved parents and relatives to meet with others who have been through a similar experience. We normally meet on the third Tuesday of every month, from 7.30pm-9.30pm, however this may change depending on committee availability. We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles. You need to be at least 13 years old to help at the Shelter. If you are younger then you could still help. If you talk to your parents or guardians they may help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter. To get started in Volunteering at the GSPCA we hold Induction Evenings and no matter your age there is always a way you can help. If you are looking to complete your work experience, Duke of Edinburgh or similar placement it is a requirement to attend one of the sessions to arrange a start date and complete the induction. The Volunteer Induction Evenings planned for 2017 will take place on the following days and times in the Event and Training Room at the GSPCA, but please do call 257261 closer to the date to confirm it is taking place. When you arrive to attend please follow the paw prints at the front of reception which will take you to the upper floor where the sessions are held. Every year we hear of pet owners being faced with circumstances of their pets being injured or caused harm often through no fault but an accident. To help pet owners each year we hold a series of training courses and we have set dates for first aid courses for those interested in helping dogs and cats. The dates set for 2017 are: Cat First Aid 6.30pm - 8.45pm Wednesday 10th May 2017 - Ref - Cat 10/05 Dog First Aid 6.30pm - 8.45pm Thursday 18th May 2017 - Ref - Dog 18/05 Dog First Aid 6.30pm - 8.45pm Wednesday 22nd November 2017 - Ref - Dog 22/11 All first aid courses are a minimum £20 donation and you must book your place by the lunch time on the day of the training session. Within the sessions you get the chance to learn about what to do if you were faced with an emergency situation with your dog or cat. Dementia Awareness Week is Alzheimer's Society's annual flagship awareness raising campaign. The main aim of the week is to increase understanding of dementia and let people who are worried about dementia know that there is information and support available to them. This year's theme is United Against Dementia. It's time to forget our differences and come together to urgently find a cure, improve care, and offer help and understanding. Why not become a Dementia Friend during this Dementia Awareness Week by attending one of Dementia Friendly Guernsey's free Dementia Awareness Sessions? Find out a little more about dementia and how it affects people in our community. Each session lasts just one hour. They are being held on Monday 15th May at 7.30pm at Styx, St Pierre du Bois Wednesday 17th May at 3pm at Styx, St Pierre du Bois, Thursday 18th May at 2.30pm at the MIND Centre, The Arsenal, St Peter Port and on Friday 19th May at 10.30am at Styx, St Pierre du Bois. The GSPCA shop will be closing down on Thursday this week for a few weeks while we have a refit. In order to clear some stock we will be having a massive sale over the next two days. The shop will be manned 9am – 5pm and bargains include: * all adult clothing £1 per item * children’s clothing 50p per item * all furniture in stock maximum £10 per item but must be collected before Thursday * handbags and shoes £1 each * small ornaments 50p and large £1 * children’s toys no more than £1 * books 25p each * CDs 25p each * DVDs 50p each * jewellery £1 or less We want to clear as much as possible over the next two days to make the move easier so come down and get a bargain. To get to us by bus take the number 21 or number 61. We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles. Volunteers helping raise funds for the GSPCA Animal Shelter Guernsey You need to be at least 13 years old to help at the Shelter. If you are younger then you could still help. If you talk to your parents or guardians they may help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter. To get started in Volunteering at the GSPCA we hold Induction Evenings and no matter your age there is always a way you can help. If you are looking to complete your work experience, Duke of Edinburgh or similar placement it is a requirement to attend one of the sessions to arrange a start date and complete the induction. We are especially looking for volunteers to help with our grounds and conservation work, driving our ambulance on the weekends and to help in our charity shop. The Volunteer Induction Evenings planned for 2017 will take place on the following days and times in the Event and Training Room at the GSPCA, but please do call 257261 closer to the date to confirm it is taking place. The 2017 Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday will be the sixth and takes place on Sunday 28th May. On the 28th May 2017 10am to 4pm the GSPCA will be organising a day to celebrate the animals in Guernsey and all the wonderful work that is done to care for them. We are extremely grateful to all those that made last 5 years such great days and we are hoping this years will be bigger and better. There will be stalls and fun for all the family - all with an animal theme. Fancy dress to mascot 5-a-side football, childrens games to lots of food, a fun dog show to an animal less animal show, arts and crafts to charity stalls, some of the GSPCA animals looking for homes, entertainment and so much more........ This years Giant Animal Mascot event is a 5-a-side football match and can be entered as an individual or enter in the team event. All proceeds for this years race will help animals in Guernsey at the GSPCA so you can help support a great local charity, whilst having a lot of fun. During the school breaks we run a series of guided tours at the GSPCA and we have now planned for 2017 with some special tours for the children. You can also book a tour for a special event or birthday. For details on special tours please see below. This is your opportunity to visit behind the scenes at our Animal Shelter in St Andrews and see the work being carried out for the new build. We are arranging the guided tours on a series of dates at 2pm with the next this May half term. We ask for a minimum donation of £6 per person and £4 per child, or £17 for a family of four or £16 with an Islands Mum card. In 2017 we have some themed tours which are £18 per child or £16 with an Islands Mums card. The tours take around 80 minutes and you get to see in many of the departments, interact with some of the friendly residents and a variety of species. The special tours are a little longer. Tours are a maximum of 20 people per tour, so please book early. The special tours are also a maximum of 20. Some of the animals you will have the chance to see will be cats, rabbits, birds, hedgehogs, dogs looking for homes and some of the other wildlife. Volunteer Induction Evening

We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles. You need to be at least 13 years old to help at the Shelter. If you are younger then you could still help. If you talk to your parents or guardians they may help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter. To get started in Volunteering at the GSPCA we hold Induction Evenings and no matter your age there is always a way you can help. If you are looking to complete your work experience, Duke of Edinburgh or similar placement it is a requirement to attend one of the sessions to arrange a start date and complete the induction. The Volunteer Induction Evenings planned for 2017 will take place on the following days and times in the Event and Training Room at the GSPCA, but please do call 257261 closer to the date to confirm it is taking place. When you arrive to attend please follow the paw prints at the front of reception which will take you to the upper floor where the sessions are held. Dog First Aid Course

Every year we hear of pet owners being faced with circumstances of their pets being injured or caused harm often through no fault but an accident. To help pet owners each year we hold a series of training courses and we have set dates for first aid courses for those interested in helping dogs and cats. The dates set for 2017 are: Cat First Aid 6.30pm - 8.45pm Wednesday 10th May 2017 - Ref - Cat 10/05 Dog First Aid 6.30pm - 8.45pm Thursday 18th May 2017 - Ref - Dog 18/05 Dog First Aid 6.30pm - 8.45pm Wednesday 22nd November 2017 - Ref - Dog 22/11 All first aid courses are a minimum £20 donation and you must book your place by the lunch time on the day of the training session. Within the sessions you get the chance to learn about what to do if you were faced with an emergency situation with your dog or cat. All participants receive handouts, a few goodies and a certificate. Guernsey Sands is holding its annual Lights of Love service on Friday 1 December from 7.30pm. Location to be confirmed but please save the date. This Christmas service is for all who have been deeply touched by the death of a child, at any age or stage of the child’s life and is an opportunity to honour the loved ones no longer with us, before we celebrate Christmas. This candlelit service by Reverend Linda Le Vasseur includes Christmas carols, readings, musical entertainment, candle lighting and tag hanging in honour of your loved lost one and a few mementos of the evening followed by a light refreshment.
