SENIOR KITTIZEN AND SENIOR CITIZEN EVENING AT THE GSPCA - 4th June
Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA)

On Monday 4th June from 4pm until 7pm we will be holding a very special open evening. The GSPCA and Pet concern are holding a senior cat re-homing event aimed at senior citizens only. PET CONCERN is a charity that enables older people to keep and care for their much-loved cat or to help look after a new cat that has entered their life. They can help with giving medication, preparing and cleaning litter trays, grooming, feeding, cat food shopping and also providing transport for the owner and cat to the vets. Sometimes older people are put off from re-homing a cat as they feel they are not active enough or able to physically care for them which is such a shame as cats can bring so much love and companionship to a home and an elderly person. We have a number of older cats that we have had for some time such as Jingles one of our long stay senior cats, looking for his forever home Cats, like people, are living much longer these days and at the GSPCA we have a number of older cats and also cats in need of a quiet home only who would love to find the purrfect forever home to live out the rest of their years in. Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant "We recently had a meeting to discuss how to find our older cats a home and decided that running a special night might just help find them that forever home." "We have some great links with the Pet Concern team that help a number of islanders care for their pets and they too want to help us find some of our older cats find a forever home." "We have older cats like Jingles who is hyperthyroid and has been with us since March last year to cats like 9 year old Captain Jack who has allergies and has been with us since last January." "We are hoping that holding a Senior Kittizen and Senior Citizen evening it could just help one of these lovely older cats find their forever home." Michelle Champion GSPCA staff member said "We will be opening the Charity Shop until 7pm on the 4th June so those coming to visit the older cats in need can also check out our pet department we have and get a drink and a few snacks." "We have some really adorable older cats at the GSPCA and we so want to find them loving new homes." Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We have around a dozen older cats or those with medical needs looking for a home and the Senior Kittizen and Senior Citizen is the first ever event of its kind we have held to help those animals in need." "If you can't offer an animal a home there are many ways to support our work from sponsoring an animal pen to sharing their details on social media." REFRESHMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED AND THE CHARITY SHOP WILL BE OPEN UNTIL 7PM SO PLEASE COME ALONG AND SEE OUR CATS WITHOUT ANY OBLIGATION PLEASE HELP US SPREAD THE WORD. JUST COME ALONG BUT IF YOU WOULD LIKE FURTHER INFORMATION PLEASE CALL THE GSPCA ON 257261. 'Bring Your Dog to Work Day' - instead of a dress down day could your dog come to work for a donation
Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA)

Next Friday June 22nd is 'Bring Your Dog to Work Day' - instead of a dress down day could your dog come to work for a donation Next Friday June 22nd is Bring Your Dog to Work Day. Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity. When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work. Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work? Discussing the benefits of taking a dog to work might just result in a match with a dog we have in for homing. We rehome hundreds of pets every year, with an average 40 to 50 dogs in need of a forever home in Guernsey each year. To see some of the dogs looking for homes please click here http://www.gspca.org.gg/animals/dogs . Lorna Prince Animal Welfare Manager said "We rehome and help dozens of dogs every month through the Shelter and the dog training classes we run at the GSPCA, and it is really nice to hear of those owners that can take their dogs to work." "Not every dog owner has the right type of work place to take their dog or dogs to work, but why not ask your boss and see what they say."Annie and Lorna Prince bring your dog to work day GSPCA Guernsey "Annie my little dog often comes to work with me which she both enjoys and often earns her keep with helping with tasks around the Shelter such as school visits or seeing how dogs in for homes behave around other dogs, as does Mouse my other dog who was one of the Slovakian rescue dogs." Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Many work places on a Friday have a mufti day but why not look at it with a twist and see if your dog can come along with you for 'Bring Your Dog to Work Day' on the 22nd June." "Last year KPMG was just one of many companies that took part in 'Take Your Dog To Work Day' and we are hoping that many places of work will celebrate this day next week." "There are lots of ways to get involved and help the GSPCA and loads of ideas on our fund raising web page, but this Friday don't forget if you can please do take your dog to work." "Your dogs could really help the dogs in our care as we have launched an Urgent Kennel Floor Appeal." "Our kennel floors to replace and repair are going to cost £65,000 so any help or support would be hugely appreciated." "Pictured is Bella a beagle puppy and soon to be in a new home and our support will help pups just like her in our care."
